Falls Church, Virginia – The Union Home Mortgage Foundation, a charitable organization whose mission is to equip families with the tools and resources to achieve economic self-sufficiency, today announced it is giving back by donating $8,000 to Homestretch.

Homestretch empowers homeless families with children living in Virginia to attain permanent housing and self-sufficiency by giving them the skills, knowledge and hope they need to become productive participants in the community. Funding from the Union Home Mortgage Foundation is in support of Homestretch’s ADDRESS Program. The ADDRESS Program (Addressing Dynamic Debt Reduction Strategies) helps families transitioning from homelessness build savings, reduce debt, and restore credit to leave their housing programs with a “nest egg.” Homestretch is also the family’s tax preparer and refunds are used to negotiate payoffs with their creditors. In its 31-year history, Homestretch has provided housing and supportive services for over 2,000 families and 5,500 children.

“We are genuinely grateful to the Union Home Mortgage Foundation for their generous support of our mission to empower homeless parents with children to secure permanent housing and attain the skills, knowledge and hope they need to escape homelessness forever.  For over thirty years, we have been providing housing and comprehensive services to homeless families and achieving an unparalleled rate of success.  We are humbled by supporters like Union Home who share our belief that the right kind of investment in a homeless family’s life can be lasting and transformative,” said Christopher Fray, Executive Director, Homestretch.

Homestretch is one of 26 non-profit organizations Union Home Mortgage Foundation has supported so far this year.

“We’re proud to support Homestretch in this critical area of need,” said Bill Cosgrove, President & CEO of Union Home Mortgage. “Service, accountability and commitment are all core tenets of who we are as Partners and together as a world-class organization, and we see that clearly reflected in this important work. We also can relate to the mission of Homestretch and understand the importance of homeownership. We are honored to support the ADDRESS Program and look forward to continuing this relationship in the future.”
